Lufthansa Cargo and CHAMP commit to the ONE Record data standard

In further news from the transport logistic/air cargo Europe exhibition being held in Munich this week, Lufthansa Cargo and CHAMP Cargosystems have from the show announced their joint commitment to adopt ONE Record as an open data-sharing standard. IATA’s ONE Record is a modern, free, data-sharing standard for the air cargo shipping industry. It creates a single record view of a given shipment and represents a standard for data-sharing. The trade association’s vision for ONE Record is for it to support an end-to-end digital logistics and transport supply chain in which data is easily and transparently exchanged in a digital ecosystem of air cargo stakeholders, communities and data platforms. ONE Record is designed to address the main challenges of e-freight and unlock the possibilities of a fully digital air cargo industry while creating opportunities for new value-added services and business models. Lufthansa Cargo and CHAMP said at air cargo Europe that they will implement the ONE Record standard within their respective IT infrastructures as a basis for interchanging data. Moreover, both the freight wing of Germany’s flag-carrier and the Luxembourg-based provider of IT solutions to the airfreight industry also confirmed their intention to actively drive the industry’s transition towards ONE Record.A first step As a first step, Lufthansa Cargo and CHAMP plan to offer an open, ONE Record-based shipment tracking API later this year.

Subsequent to that, both companies will expect to shipment data as a matter of course via ONE Record.

After years of piloting and partial operational implementation, ONE Record now appears ready for roll out on a broader scale. Ashwin Bhat, chief executive of Lufthansa Cargo, observed: “Data is crucial to our industry’s success, but we have been hindered by outdated data formats and legacy infrastructure for too long. “ONE Record has the potential to revolutionise the way we share information. It opens the door for a fundamental production optimisation based on high quality data sharing.” Chris McDermott, chief executive of CHAMP Cargosystems, added: “CHAMP is committed to accelerating the adoption of IATA ONE Record across the transportation industry worldwide. “We believe that this open data-sharing standard will break down the silos of information and improve operational efficiency thanks to better data accuracy and completeness.” Yesterday, also from the air cargo Europe show, Lufthansa Cargo presented its ambitions for Frankfurt Airport to become one of the world’s most important e-commerce hubs Working closely with two subsidiaries – logistics service provider heyworld and CB Customs Broker – Lufthansa Cargo is itself actively driving forward the expansion of the e-commerce business at Frankfurt Airport, its home hub.
