WestJet Cargo will benefit from five new passenger destinations that will be added to WestJet’s network in its 2025/26 winter schedule. The Canadian carrier said the destinations include Panama City, Guadalajara and Tepic in Mexico, Havana in Cuba and Managua in Nicaragua. It will be WestJet’s first year-round service to Mexico City, a major hub for North American trade. The new routes will provide enhanced belly cargo opportunities and overall departures across the network will increase by 3% compared to last year, with 305 routes and 62 destinations across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the US. Overall, WestJet is increasing capacity across the Latin America and Caribbean region by 6%, focusing on high-demand markets such as Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. The carrier has also bolstered its cargo capacity by reconfiguring former aircraft from its Sunwing and Swoop long cost passenger operations to its standard cargo-friendly layout ahead of the season. vice president sales and cargo, Amanda Ierfino commented: “WestJet Cargo’s expanded winter schedule is a direct response to our customers’ needs for greater connectivity and reliable service to sun destinations and beyond. "By strengthening our cargo network and investing in key routes, we are enabling Canadian businesses to grow and thrive, whether shipping domestically or internationally.” WestJet Cargo said in April that it hoped to see continued growth in bellyhold cargo volumes through network expansion and digital investments following its decision to end freighter operations.
